Side project - Nexus Station

Nexus Station is an association and micro-festival that I co-founded, and it's gearing up for its second edition this year.

Nexus Station aims to create a space for artistic convergence, dedicated to emerging creators from across France, including illustrators, comic artists, graphic designers, ceramicists, DJs, and more. The association's mission is to encourage exchange and collaboration between a new generation of artists from diverse backgrounds, while making art accessible to everyone. It wants to become a meeting point between artists and their (future) audiences, blending creativity, community, and cultural discovery.

The association is committed to organizing multidisciplinary artistic events such as exhibitions, DJ sets, creator markets, workshops, creative pop-up stores, and more. These initiatives come together over one weekend during the Nexus Station micro-festival.

A place and its story

The event takes place at L’Aiguillage, an underground exhibition space located inside Les Frigos in Paris. Photographer Corinne Bertelot transformed her original studio into a hybrid space for visual arts and cultural events. Her sister, Isabel Bertelot, a visual artist, oversees the artistic direction of the venue and highlights talents from Les Frigos and beyond.

Les Frigos, with its iconic water tower, is a legendary site in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. This building of more than 10,000 square meters, spread over five floors, was originally a refrigerated warehouse built in 1920 on a former railway yard. It was used to store fresh produce, produce frozen goods on-site, and manufacture tons of ice blocks.

In the late 1980s, after being abandoned, the site was taken over and transformed into artist studios, recording spaces, and production workshops. Les Frigos has since become one of Paris’s most underground hubs for artistic, cultural, and festive activity.

As of 2023, around 80 artist and creator studios continue to thrive there, bringing together nearly 250 residents around their creative practices. The walls of Les Frigos, inside and out, remain a vast experimental playground, bearing witness to the beginnings of the street art movement, with traces still visible today.

First edition

The first edition of Nexus Station took place on June 7, 8, and 9, 2024. The program included opening and closing DJ sets, a creator market, a flash tattoo day, a humanitarian solidarity shop, and a panel discussion.

Recap of the first edition: around fifteen artists and creatives from across France, over 600 visitors across the weekend, rich conversations, memorable encounters, a warm atmosphere, and overwhelmingly positive feedback from both participants and attendees.

In short, an amazing first edition, successful both creatively and on a human level.

Nexus Station Vol. 2

A Future Yet to Be Defined

L’Aiguillage, the artistic space where Nexus Station is held, with its unique and offbeat vibe, has always been a place of art and creativity. For 20 years, it has showcased more than 1,000 artists. But today, this space is under threat. Art doesn't sell the way it used to, and it's time to breathe new life into this one-of-a-kind place so it can not only survive, but evolve.

With Nexus Station, the goal is to go even further, and turn this space into a true hub for the alternative creative scene. Group exhibitions, workshops, creator markets, unexpected pop-ups, everything is still to be imagined to keep this space alive and make it a cornerstone of creative expression.

The future of this space is full of potential, but it won’t build itself. This is a collective adventure, open to anyone who wants to create, share, or simply support the vision.

We’re currently looking for partners or sponsors, whether through volunteering, financial, promotional, or material support, who believe in this project and want to be a part of it. Whether you're an artist, a partner, or a visitor, there's a place for you in this initiative.

Join us in writing the next chapter of this unique space and turning it into a vibrant, bold, and ever-evolving scene.
